We are happy to share our interview with Leonore about her first year with her hip-hop solo. Leonore has previously competed with success in a modern solo as well. Leonore is a kind, creative girl who is crazy about dancing.
When the music started, I went for it and could be myself and show what I've got.
How did the process of creating your solo choreography feel?
I really enjoyed getting coaching. In every session I learnt a new section of dance. After each session I could practise, and then a new section was added. That way I could learn a great deal.
Did you experience any difficulties or fears? Have you overcome them?
At first it was a bit scary to perform solo, especially to stand there alone on stage. I felt a bit small and alone on the podium. But when the music started, I went for it and could be myself and show what I've got.
Did you enjoy your solo competitions?
Yes, absolutely. It was a truly great experience to perform with my hip-hop solo. At the competitions I also saw the other soloists in action. I picked up a lot of new things there that enriched me as a dancer.
If I look back at all the video recordings of my solo, I can clearly see it gets better and better every time.
Any tips for other solo dancers?
Just go for it. Solo dancing is such a wonderful experience.
Do you feel you have grown through solo dancing?
Yes, I definitely feel that way. If I look back at all the video recordings of my solo, I can clearly see it gets better and better every time. It's really great to notice your own evolution as a dancer.
