For your child or teen

The class where music and technique meet.

Your child wants to dance with bite. The style behind musical theatre and pop performances, full of energy, rhythm and personality. Something you feel in your hips, with a teacher who also explains how a plié works. No choosing between technique and fun — both happen at once.

That is jazz at Ndigo. Our jazz teachers build every level around quality of movement and musicality. The season works towards the end-of-year show, where your child takes everything they have built onto a real stage.

Come and give it a try.

"My daughter absolutely loves her dance classes with you! You are doing a fantastic job as a teacher."

What jazz gives

More than a fun choreography.

Jazz trains the full package: musicality, strength, coordination and stage presence. Children who take jazz carry those skills into every other style and every other situation.

01 · Musicality

Feeling accents, understanding phrasing

Accents, phrasing, timing — jazz trains the ear and makes every movement more musical.

02 · Strength

Body control with character

Isolations, jumps, strong lines. Technique that doesn't look like technique, but shows on any stage.

03 · Stage

Presence you can see

Jazz teaches you to look, to project, to own the space. Skills that pay off well beyond the studio.

04 · Friendship

A group you belong to

The same faces, week after week. Many dancers build friendships here that last for years.

05 · Versatility

From classical to pop and musical

Jazz draws from ballet, funk and musical theatre. It is the most versatile dance style there is.

06 · Show

Working towards the big stage

Every season ends with the show. Working towards a performance brings focus, teamwork and a moment they won't forget.

A typical jazz class

60 minutes, four phases.

Every jazz class follows the same structure. The pace is fast, the atmosphere is warm, and the music drives everything. Teachers adjust the intensity per level.

00:00

Warm-up to music

Stretching, pliés, isolations — the whole body wakes up. The music sets the tone straight away.

12:00

Across the floor

Chassés, jazz walks, jumps, turns — technique that travels across the floor.

25:00

Technique & combinations

Isolations, pirouettes, jumps in combination. Complexity builds week on week.

40:00

Choreography & cool-down

The part everyone waits for. The week's choreography, danced together to music. Then stretching and closing. Applause is welcome.

Frequently asked questions

Questions parents often ask.

What age can my child start jazz?

From age 6 (Year 1 primary) in the Jazz Tinies group. Younger children start with Pre-school Dance.

Does my child need prior experience?

No. The Tinies group starts with the basics. Children from Pre-school Dance fit right in, but beginners are equally welcome.

Can my child combine jazz with ballet?

Absolutely — we recommend it. Ballet gives the technical foundation, jazz adds musicality and stage energy. The two strengthen each other.

What should my child wear?

Ndigo jazz outfit by level. For the trial class, dance-friendly clothing and bare feet or jazz shoes will do. No socks.

Is there an end-of-year show?

Yes, every season ends with a performance at the Schouwburg theatre in Roeselare. Each group dances its own choreography. The costume is included.

Can my child join mid-season?

Yes. Choreographies build up gradually, so new dancers pick it up within a few weeks. The semester fee is adjusted to your start date.
